Irving Copper Roofing installs copper roofing in Coppell: standing seam copper roofs, copper bay window and entry roofs, half-round and K-style copper gutters, and copper chimney caps and flashing, along with repairs to copper already on a house.
Coppell grew quickly after DFW Airport opened on its southwest edge in 1974, from 3,826 residents in 1980 to 35,958 in 2000, and about two-thirds of its homes were built between 1980 and 1999 (ACS 2020–2024). Houses of that age may be ready for a replacement roof, which is when switching some or all of it to copper becomes a practical choice.

In this example, the owners of a 1990s brick house in Coppell want the wide bay window at the front to stand out, without replacing the main roof. The bay roof is a small five-sided hip, about 55 sq ft.
Replacing a worn shingle roof on a 1980s or 1990s house with standing seam copper means a full tear-off to the deck, new underlayment and new flashing throughout. Another route is to keep shingles on the main roof and put copper only on the low, visible sections at the front. Deed restrictions vary by subdivision, so check yours before choosing. Bay window, entry and dormer roofs
A brick house of this era may have bay windows, an arched entry or dormers with shingle roofs that can be switched to copper one at a time. Each accent is flashed into the brick or the roof above it. See copper bay window and accent roofs.
Copper gutters and downspouts
Copper gutters can be fitted to a shingle-roofed house on their own. They need copper or compatible downspouts and fasteners, never aluminum, and the runoff path past light brick and driveways is planned in. Details on copper gutters and downspouts.
Chimney caps and flashing
Coppell’s final roof inspection includes a ground-level check of chimney flashing and crickets, so the chimney is part of any reroof here. Copper caps for masonry chimneys and covers for framed chases are made to measure. See copper chimney caps and flashing.
Hail repair
Hail of 3 inches and 2.75 inches was reported in Coppell on June 6, 2018. Copper dents in storms like that, and the question afterwards is whether seams, joints or the deck were damaged. See copper roof repair and hail damage.
Roof permits and contractor registration in Coppell
Coppell requires a building permit and inspection for the replacement of every roof, residential or commercial. Its roofing FAQ explains that roofing contractors do not have to be state licensed but must register with the city and provide proof of insurance, and the permit is how the city confirms both. The FAQ lists a $100 fee for a residential roof permit, with applications and inspection requests made through the city’s online portal.
The permit description should note any change in materials, such as moving from shingles to copper, and any sheathing replacement. If more than 100 square feet of sheathing in total needs replacing, all of the roof sheathing must be brought to current code. The Final Building inspection, in person or by remote video, covers attic vents and decking and, from the ground, flashing, drip edge and chimney flashing and crickets. City inspectors do not assess the condition of an existing roof.
NOAA’s storm database lists 8 hail reports on 7 days in the Coppell area from 2016 to 2025, the largest on June 6, 2018. Reports depend on spotters and the public, so they undercount hail. Copper is not hail-proof, and after a storm a check of the seams and flashing tells you more than counting dents.
Yes. Coppell requires a building permit and a final inspection for all roof replacements, and the permit description should mention a change to copper.
Does a Coppell roofer need a license?
Texas has no state roofing license, but Coppell requires roofing contractors to register with the city and show proof of insurance.
Will the city inspect my old roof before I replace it?
No. Coppell’s inspectors do not assess the condition of an existing roof; they inspect the new work. Our own inspection before a quote covers the deck, the flashing and the chimney.
