Irving Copper Roofing installs copper gutters and downspouts in Irving: half-round and K-style profiles, round or rectangular downspouts, conductor heads, copper hangers and, where wanted, copper gutter guards. Joints are soldered, and every part that touches the gutter is copper or compatible with it.

Copper gutters can go on a house with any kind of roof, or be fitted with a new copper roof so the two weather together. Our service area also covers Coppell and University Park.

Copper gutter options

Half-round copper gutters

A half-round gutter is an open semicircular trough on hangers, paired with round downspouts. It suits traditional brick and stone houses and is sold in 5-inch and 6-inch widths, among others. The open shape is easy to clean, and a guard can be added where trees overhang the roof.

K-style copper gutters

K-style gutters have a flat back and a molded ogee face that reads like trim from the street. Where neighboring houses have aluminum K-style gutters, a copper version in the same profile keeps the outline familiar, which can make an HOA review simpler.

Downspouts, conductor heads and rain chains

Downspouts come round or rectangular. A conductor head is the box at the top of a downspout that collects water where several gutters meet or where a scupper drains a flat area. Rain chains can stand in for a downspout on a porch or patio, but Valley Ranch’s guidelines require downspouts that carry all water to the ground, so check the rules first.

Copper gutter guards

Copper mesh or hood-style guards keep leaves out of the trough and weather to match the gutter. They cut down on cleaning, but debris still gathers on top, and the gutters still need a look after storms.

Mixing copper with aluminum or steel

Copper should not touch aluminum or galvanized steel, and water running off copper corrodes those metals below it. That rules out copper gutters with aluminum downspouts or steel fasteners, and it means checking what sits under each outlet. The same runoff can leave streaks on light stone, brick or concrete, so splash blocks and drain lines are planned at the start.

Valley Ranch and Las Colinas drainage rules

Valley Ranch’s guidelines require every roofed improvement to be fully guttered, with downspouts carrying all water to the ground, and ask homes next to water features or common areas to drain their gutters to the street. Exterior changes go to the Architectural Review Committee, and copper gutters change how a house looks. In Las Colinas, check with the Las Colinas Association before replacing gutters.

Frequently asked questions

Will copper gutters turn green?

Over time they can. New copper darkens to brown first, and a green patina may form later; the pace depends on exposure, so there is no fixed timeline for Irving.

Can copper gutters be painted?

They can, with a suitable primer, but paint hides the metal you paid for and has to be renewed. A clear lacquer keeps the bright color for a while, then wears and needs stripping or recoating. If you want a painted gutter, aluminum or steel costs less.

Are copper gutters worth it?

That depends on what you value. Copper costs more than aluminum or steel, but it needs no paint, it can be soldered and repaired, and it matches copper roofs and accents. On a house with no other copper and a tight budget, aluminum may be the better fit.

Copper gutters can be matched with standing seam copper roofing, copper bay window and accent roofs or new copper chimney caps and flashing.
