Irving Copper Roofing repairs copper roofs in Irving: standing seams that leak, cracked solder on flat seam work, flashing that has pulled away from brick, worn spots on bay window roofs and dents left by hail.

A repair starts by finding where water actually gets in, which is not always where the stain shows. Our service area covers Irving, Coppell and University Park.

Copper roof repairs

Seam and solder joint leaks

On flat seam bay roofs and other low areas, soldered joints can crack as the copper moves through hot summers and cold snaps; on standing seam roofs, a seam can open where it was damaged or never fully closed. Small cracks can be cleaned and resoldered. A panel that keeps failing may be better replaced, and that call is made on the roof.

Hail dents and storm damage

Hail dents copper, and a dented roof can still be watertight. Damage matters when it reaches a seam, a solder joint, a fastener or the deck underneath. We check those points and write down what we find and what fixing it involves. We do not handle insurance claims or meet adjusters; the written findings are yours to use as you choose.

Flashing and transition failures

Leaks can start where copper meets something else: a brick wall, a chimney, a shingle roof or another metal. Counterflashing can slip out of a mortar joint, sealant can dry out, and copper touching aluminum or galvanized steel corrodes the other metal. Chimney work has its own page, copper chimney caps and flashing.

Cleaning and patina restoration

Copper can be cleaned back to bright metal, but harsh cleaners and abrasives strip the patina, take some copper with it and restart the color change from the beginning. Clear coatings keep a bright finish for a while and then wear unevenly. We explain the trade-off before any cleaning and do not sell coating products.

Hail in Irving

North Texas has a long record of costly hail. The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office lists the April 28, 1995 storm at DFW Airport, at $654 million in 2013 dollars, and the June 13, 2012 North Texas storm, estimated at $901 million, among the costliest in the state. Inside Irving, NOAA storm reports logged hail of 1.25 to 1.5 inches on April 19, 2020, March 16 and June 13, 2023, and March 25, 2025.

From 2016 to 2025, 160 of 196 Dallas County hail reports fell between March and June. The reports come from spotters and the public, so a quiet record does not mean a street saw no hail.

Permits for roof repairs in Irving

Irving requires a building permit for roof repairs exceeding 100 square feet, applied for through the city’s My Government Online (MGO) portal. Resoldering a joint stays well under that size; replacing several panels or a section of decking may not.

Frequently asked questions

Does a hail-dented copper roof need replacing?

Not automatically. Dents on their own are cosmetic. A section repair or replacement comes into question when seams, solder joints or the deck have been damaged or leaks follow, and an inspection shows which.

Should I clean the green off my copper roof?

You do not have to. The green patina is a surface layer that forms as copper weathers and protects the metal beneath, so leaving it alone does no harm. Cleaning is a choice about looks, and it restarts the color change.

A roof at the end of its life may call for standing seam copper roofing instead of another repair. Bay and entry repairs connect to copper bay window and accent roofs, and gutter leaks to copper gutters and downspouts.
